Paranormal State
Dec. 29th, 2009 08:24 pmOr, "why are people such idiots about the occult?"
My little sister is obsessed with the show Paranormal State, so we've been watching a lot of it.
You see all these cases where people are haunted by demons, and they always find out that its because the people used a ouija board/spirit board/summoned demons/were "into witchcraft".
Seriously guys, wtf. There are so many warnings OUT there about things like this. Like, don't use a ouija board to talk to demons because they're obviously going to take advantage of that.
And people summoning demons for fun? Can you get any more disrespectful? Grow up people. You're messing with things that are way stronger with you. Its not a game. Its not "Let me show you mypokemans demons". Its serious stuff and you can mess up a lot of lives with it. And yet people just do it willy nilly.
And the witchcraft thing...way to give entire religions a bad name, man. Witchcraft is NOT Wicca or Paganism. Its the above people doing things will nilly. If you're really part of the religion, chances are, you've done some studies or research on the topic and actually KNOW about what you're doing. Its not just the believe in magic, or demons, or spells and what have you. Its a faith and a belief system. Its a spiritual standpoint. If you really are part of the religion, chances are that you feel some sort of responsibility for your craft and your actions. Yeah, there are inexperienced, overzealous and irresponsible people of any faith, but really people, please use your common sense.
Then, people with real faith have to come in and clean up the mess. Now, it doesn't have to be religious faith, but at the very least you need faith in yourself. That's the basis of it all. For instance, you can do all the spells and purifications that you want, but if you don't believe in your ability to do them right, then they won't work. True strength is what's needed when it comes to working magic. That's part of what I admire about these psychic leaders, because they have true faith in their own strength as well as that as their chosen deities.
After I read Salem's Lot, I was kind of freaked out about vampires. Naturally, I went out and bought a cross, and wore it around. A friend of mine thought that it was a stupid idea, because as she said, it was not the cross itself as a symbol that would drive them away, but the faith behind it (this was also exhibited in the book). She said that my pentacle would be just as effective against them. While I was aware of that, I think more of my faith lies in the CROSS being able to drive away the vampires. Were I to try using my pentacle, I'd be nervous about it not working, therefore it would not be as strong. But using the cross, I would have full faith in its ability and mine. No, I am not Christian, but the nature of my religion allows me to accept and be a part of all faiths throughout the world. I don't wear the cross anymore (that was short lived), but I do sleep with a crucifix above my head. It has a different meaning, but my extreme faith in that particular necklace makes it a very powerful defense. I hesitate to use the word "weapon".
Anyway, I'm rambling. So I'll repeat: please use your common sense when you start thinking summoning a demon would be a good idea.
